I thought the cinematography as well. With Kevin Van Hentenryck, Terri Susan Smith, Beverly Bonner, Robert Vogel. I absolutely loved the use of practical effects in this film.

It would be easy for people today to put it down for some of the early 1980's effects, but let's flip this perspective around and consider that no CGI what-so-ever was used. It was directed by Tobe Hooper, but it has the unmistakable fingerprints of producer/writer Steven Spielberg all over it.

Clearly an influential film by Chainsaw director Tobe Hooper, Poltergeist reached for, and achieved, everything that the earlier Amityville Horror failed to be; namely, scary, credible, and well acted. When the mall goes on lock-down before they can get out, the robot security system malfunctions, and goes on a killing spree.
In a flashback sequence we learn the basket contains his surgically removed Siamese twin - who is not only so physically deformed the doctors hesitated to consider him a human, but is also the vindictive driver behind their trip, with the purpose of killing off all those he blames.
this film was alot of fun to watch as a fan of cheesy films.
